A bit about me

Recent Personal History

In 2011, I moved to Bolivia to raise my son and support my wife as she worked to advance her career. My wife and I had worked together on many life projects in the past, and this one was to be no different. I had the opportunity to work as the manager of a very popular eco-tourism destination for the first years that we lived there. I also worked as a teacher and a computing technologies consultant.

One of the unfortunate consequences of our move was that my career was put on hold. I was able to spend a great deal of time with my son, and I would not trade those moments for any incremental career advancement, but the reality is that I lost several years in the American workforce.

A bit about the site

Hand coded, HTML, CSS & PHP

I have written all of the code on this site by hand. I have used Wordpress in the past, but I believe that if one wants to use a tool like Wordpress, one should understand the technology that underlies it. To that end, I embarked on a journey that has taught me some of the basics of PHP.

This website is bootstrapped together using an index.php file which loads content modules into a webpage that makes sense to your browser. Header, content, and footer modules are included by the index depending on the links you click in the menu. Simple really, but it saves a bunch of work.

What lies ahead

In the future I will implement a newsfeed on the main page that will access a MySQL database for its content, a gallery of my photography (again DB driven), and a customizable resume (also DB driven).
